The Washington Wizards continue to signal that All-Star guard Trae Young is not for sale, even as several NBA teams keep tabs on his situation, league sources say.

Multiple front offices have weighed the possibility of pursuing Young if he enters the market, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. The Miami Heat are among the clubs monitoring alternatives should their pursuit of Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo stall. Miami’s contingency list reportedly also includes Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant and Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard.

Interest alone does not guarantee movement. Young, 27, holds a $49 million player option for the 2024-25 season and has until June 23 to exercise it. Any trade would almost certainly require him to opt in before negotiations could proceed.

Sources told Hoops Wire that Washington’s front office prefers to retain Young and work toward a longer agreement. The franchise’s optimism rose after winning the No. 1 overall pick in last week’s draft lottery.

Young appeared in 15 games after arriving at midseason and, by most accounts, enjoyed his brief stint in Washington. Team officials continue to view him as a cornerstone moving forward.

With the NBA offseason underway, rival executives are expected to keep asking about Young’s status, but for now the Wizards appear committed to keeping their star guard in the nation’s capital.
