The Philadelphia 76ers have moved quickly to reshape their front office, dismissing longtime president of basketball operations Daryl Morey and hiring former Cavaliers executive Mike Gansey to lead basketball operations. With that change in place, the organization is now preparing for player-related decisions as free-agency negotiations with its own players can begin Sunday and the NBA draft is set for June 23–24.
Additional offseason questions remain, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. Chief among them is the future role of former general manager Elton Brand, who exited the day-to-day basketball department after Jameer Nelson’s promotion but has reportedly agreed to a new position within the franchise’s parent company. The club may also consider further front-office adjustments and potential tweaks to head coach Nick Nurse’s staff.
Focus on Pick No. 22
Philadelphia controls the 22nd overall selection in the 2026 NBA Draft, and several prospects are already being linked to that spot:
- Draft analyst Logan Adams told PhillyVoice he believes Santa Clara forward Allen Graves would be an ideal fit if he is still on the board. Graves is No. 17 on ESPN’s draft rankings.
- In a separate interview with PhillyVoice, Brian Geisinger outlined the strengths and weaknesses of former Stanford guard Ebuka Okorie, who sits at No. 27 on ESPN’s list.
- Michigan assistant coach Mike Boynton, speaking on the PHLY Sixers podcast, discussed how big men Morez Johnson and Yaxel Lendeborg—both key pieces on a recent championship team—could slot into Philadelphia’s rotation if available at No. 22 or in the event the Sixers trade up.
The Sixers are expected to weigh those options carefully as Gansey and the retooled front office craft the next phase of the team’s roster construction.
