Cleveland’s James Harden arrested on misdemeanor gun charge in Houston

Cavaliers guard James Harden was taken into custody in Houston early Saturday on a misdemeanor count of unlawfully carrying a weapon, according to police records cited by TMZ.

Officers say a handgun was visible inside Harden’s vehicle rather than secured in a holster when they stopped him at 3:41 a.m. local time. The 11-time All-Star was booked and later released on bond. A court appearance is scheduled for June 22.

Bond conditions bar Harden from possessing firearms or other weapons. He must also submit to random drug testing and is prohibited from using alcohol, marijuana or controlled substances without a doctor’s prescription.

Sources told The California Post that Harden and a large group of friends had been at a Houston hookah lounge shortly before the arrest.

The veteran guard, who turns 37 in August, holds a $42.3 million player option for 2026-27, though only $13.3 million of that figure is guaranteed. After beginning last season with the Clippers, Harden was traded to Cleveland in February in a deal that sent Darius Garland to Los Angeles.

Harden averaged 23.6 points, 8.0 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals over 70 regular-season games. In 18 postseason contests, his numbers dipped to 19.2 points and 5.5 assists per game as the Cavaliers were swept by New York in the Eastern Conference finals.

Both Harden and the Cavaliers have publicly expressed interest in extending their partnership this summer.
