James Harden, a guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers, was taken into custody early Saturday in Texas on a misdemeanor count of unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to TMZ Sports.

The report states that officers discovered a handgun inside Harden’s vehicle during the stop. The firearm was allegedly visible and not secured in a holster.

Harden was released on bond and is due back in court on June 22. Bond conditions bar him from possessing firearms, ammunition, or other weapons and from using alcohol, marijuana, controlled substances, or dangerous drugs unless prescribed by a physician. He must also submit to random urinalysis testing.

Neither Harden nor the Cavaliers immediately issued a public statement. TMZ said it contacted representatives for the 34-year-old but had not received a response.

The arrest occurs as Harden considers a $42.3 million player option for next season. Acquired in a February trade, he helped Cleveland reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2018. After the season, Harden expressed a desire to remain with the team.

Harden averaged 20.5 points and 7.7 assists in 32 regular-season games with the Cavaliers and added 19.2 points and 5.5 assists per game during the playoffs.
