The competition for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo appears narrower than anticipated, with the Miami Heat and Portland Trail Blazers identified as the two franchises actively pursuing the two-time MVP, league sources told Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
Boston Monitoring Situation
Fischer reported that the Boston Celtics remain a potential destination, even though no substantive trade talks have taken place with Milwaukee. League insiders have not dismissed the possibility of the Celtics entering discussions that could include All-NBA forward Jaylen Brown, a chip rival teams cannot easily match.
Antetokounmpo trains with the same skills coach as Jayson Tatum, and Boston’s longtime interest reportedly has Miami keeping a close eye on any Celtics movement.
Portland Weighing Commitment
Portland is considered “active” in its pursuit, but uncertainty over Antetokounmpo’s willingness to sign long term could influence how much the Trail Blazers are prepared to surrender in a deal, according to Fischer.
Warriors, Timberwolves on Sidelines
The Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves, linked to the Bucks star before February’s trade deadline, are not currently prominent in Milwaukee’s conversations, Fischer added.
Little Action From Magic, Rockets
No recent substantive talks have taken place between the Bucks and Orlando Magic, despite previous speculation tied to front-office connections. Meanwhile, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported the Houston Rockets have not made an active push for Antetokounmpo in recent days.
For now, Miami and Portland remain the only confirmed suitors, though league observers caution that the market could shift quickly if Boston or another contender decides to intensify efforts.
