Column urges Cavaliers to shun Mobley-for-Giannis and Allen-for-LeBron deals

The Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to explore high-profile roster moves this summer, but a new column argues that two of the most talked-about blockbuster trades would carry too much risk.

Mobley for Antetokounmpo?

In a piece for Cavs on SI, writer Daniel Fisher cautioned against dealing 24-year-old forward Evan Mobley for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. Fisher noted that Mobley is under team control for several more seasons and still climbing toward his prime, while Antetokounmpo, 31, could reach free agency within the next few years, depending on his contract decisions. According to the column, surrendering one of the league’s top young defensive anchors for a veteran whose championship window may be shorter could jeopardize Cleveland’s long-term outlook.

Allen in a sign-and-trade for James?

Fisher also pushed back on proposals that send center Jarrett Allen to Los Angeles in a sign-and-trade for LeBron James. Although a third stint for James in his home state would carry obvious marketing appeal, the writer argued that Cleveland should not sacrifice Allen, one of the NBA’s more productive rim protectors, to make it happen. Fisher suggested any pursuit of James should avoid dismantling the current core.

The offseason balancing act

Cleveland reached the Eastern Conference finals before bowing out, and the front office has since been linked to several marquee names, including Antetokounmpo and James. Fisher’s column underscores the tightrope general manager Koby Altman must walk: upgrading a contender without mortgaging assets that could define the franchise’s future.

With free agency and trade season approaching, discussion surrounding the Cavaliers, Giannis and LeBron is expected to remain front and center.
