Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James says the New York Knicks are playing at a level the league has not seen “in a long time,” crediting the club’s 13-game postseason winning streak that carried them to a 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals.

Speaking on the most recent episode of the Mind the Game podcast, James noted that New York has not lost since Game 3 of its first-round series against the Atlanta Hawks. “They’re the hottest team that we’ve seen in a long time… The best time to get hot is when the playoffs start, and they’ve caught a rhythm,” he said.

Dominance on Both Ends

The Knicks rebounded from a 2-1 deficit to Atlanta by winning 13 consecutive games, sweeping the next two rounds and taking the first two contests of the Finals on the road before falling to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3. During the surge, New York closed out series with victories of 51, 30 and 37 points.

James highlighted the club’s balance. While the offense now flows more through center Karl-Anthony Towns, giving guard Jalen Brunson added freedom, role players such as OG Anunoby and Josh Hart have delivered key contributions. James also praised the defense, which has tightened as the playoffs progressed.

Two Wins from a Title

After decades without a championship, New York is two victories away from its first NBA crown since 1973, energizing fans across the city and drawing attention from around the league—including the four-time MVP in Los Angeles.

James Faces His Own Off-Season Decision

While keeping an eye on New York’s run, the 21-year veteran is preparing for free agency. James can sign with any team if he returns for a 24th NBA season, and league sources say the Golden State Warriors have “legitimate” interest in pursuing him.

The Knicks and Spurs resume the Finals with Game 4 later this week.
