The Washington Wizards are scheduled to host former BYU standout AJ Dybantsa later this week as the franchise inches toward making the first selection in the June 23 NBA Draft, according to Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors, citing reports from The Athletic’s David Aldridge and Josh Robbins.
Dybantsa, a 6-foot-9 wing widely projected as the top player in this year’s class, could arrive in Washington as early as Thursday. The 19-year-old is coming off a dominant freshman campaign in Provo, where he averaged 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists while establishing himself as one of college basketball’s most potent scorers.
The Wizards hold the No. 1 overall pick and have consistently been linked to Dybantsa, yet team officials have offered no public indication of their preferred choice. Kansas guard Darryn Peterson, Duke forward Cameron Boozer and North Carolina forward Caleb Wilson are also believed to be under serious consideration. Wilson has already met with Washington’s front office, The Athletic reported.
Robbins added that internal sentiment suggests two players have separated themselves from the rest of the field, though he did not name them. League sources have largely pointed to Dybantsa and Peterson as the consensus top tier.
With less than two weeks before Commissioner Adam Silver announces the first pick, Dybantsa’s visit is expected to center on interviews, dinners and broader discussions about organizational fit rather than on-court workouts—standard procedure for prospects projected at the top of the draft.
