On June 10, 1984, the Los Angeles Lakers stayed alive in the NBA Finals by outlasting the Boston Celtics 119-108 in Game 6 at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

Boston held a 34-30 edge after one quarter and extended the margin to six points by halftime. The teams traded baskets in the third period, setting up a decisive final 12 minutes. Los Angeles surged in the fourth, outscoring Boston by 15 to force a winner-take-all Game 7.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar led the way with 30 points and 10 rebounds in 42 minutes, converting 14 of 26 shots and handing out five assists. Magic Johnson added 21 points, 10 assists and six rebounds, while Michael Cooper and James Worthy chipped in 23 and 20 points, respectively, combining to hit 18 of 33 attempts.

Larry Bird paced the Celtics with 28 points on 8-for-11 shooting and went 12-for-13 at the free-throw line. Gerald Henderson scored 22 points but finished 8-for-20 from the field.

The victory pulled the series even at 3-3. Two nights later, Boston captured Game 7 and secured the franchise’s 15th championship.
