Jonathan Kuminga ready to sign $7.9 million qualifying offer if Warriors don’t improve terms, agent says

Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga is prepared to accept his one-year, $7.9 million qualifying offer unless the team revises its contract proposals, agent Aaron Turner told “The Hoop Collective” podcast.
Three offers turned down
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania and Anthony Slater, Golden State recently presented three separate extensions:
- Three years, $75.2 million, with a team option for the third season (guaranteeing $48.3 million over the first two years)
- Two years, $45 million, with a team option for the second season
- Three years, $54 million, fully guaranteed
Kuminga, 22, rejected each proposal. Turner said the forward wants a player option instead of the team option the Warriors have insisted on including. “If they want a happy player who is a big part of this team moving forward, you give him the player option,” the agent stated.
Upside of the qualifying offer
By choosing the qualifying offer, Kuminga would give up more than $40 million in guaranteed salary over the next two seasons but would gain a no-trade clause and unrestricted free agency in July 2025. “You’re not getting traded, and you hit the market as the clear-cut top wing under 35,” Turner said, noting there should still be multiple teams with cap space next summer.
External interest and Warriors’ stance
League sources told ESPN that the Sacramento Kings have pitched a sign-and-trade worth roughly $63-66 million over three years, while the Phoenix Suns have discussed a four-year package in the $80-88 million range. Golden State has demanded at least an unprotected 2030 first-round pick and a young player, without taking back undesirable contracts, before considering any sign-and-trade.
Kuminga has until Oct. 1 to sign the qualifying offer, though that deadline can be moved if both sides agree.
