Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James acknowledged that his long-standing friendship with Canadian rapper Drake has cooled in recent months but insisted there is no bad blood between the two global stars.
Speaking to Complex Sports, James said the pair are currently “in different places,” yet he still wishes the artist well. “Always. Always. Always wish him the best obviously,” James stated. “Different places right now currently. He’s doing his thing, I’m doing mine. But it’s always love for sure.”
The comments come after a high-profile feud last year between Drake and Kendrick Lamar dominated music headlines. During the back-and-forth, James attended Lamar’s “The Pop Out” concert at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California—an appearance some observers viewed as the NBA star taking Lamar’s side. Drake later said that seeing friends support his rival made him feel abandoned.
James and Drake have been friends for years, with the rapper frequently referencing the four-time NBA champion in lyrics and appearing at various league events. Whether their bond fully rebounds remains to be seen, but James emphasized that the foundation of their relationship remains intact.
In the same interview, James reiterated that coaching is not in his post-retirement plans, despite preparing to enter his 23rd NBA season.
