Background on Brown’s status
Brown, the 2024 Finals MVP, remains under contract for three more seasons and can sign a two-year extension valued at roughly $142 million this summer. The 27-year-old averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 2023-24 while helping Boston manage injuries elsewhere on the roster.
Why Houston entered the picture
The Rockets finished last season with 52 wins but exited in the first round against the Los Angeles Lakers despite acquiring Kevin Durant the previous offseason. Adding Brown would pair another high-level scorer and perimeter defender with Durant as Houston seeks a deeper playoff push.
Uncertain likelihood
Boston has consistently built around Brown and fellow All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum, and there is no clear indication the franchise intends to separate the tandem. Nevertheless, multi-team hypotheticals involving marquee names routinely surface during the NBA offseason, keeping speculation alive.
