The Oklahoma City Thunder, knocked out of the playoffs by San Antonio on Saturday night at Paycom Center, are not expected to launch a push for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, league sources told The Athletic’s Sam Amick.

Despite a 71-14 record against all other opponents this season, Oklahoma City went just 4-8 versus the Spurs, who advanced by winning Game 7 of the Western Conference finals. The matchup has highlighted the difficulty of countering Spurs rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama and raised questions about how the Thunder will adjust their roster.

Interest in Evan Mobley

Amick reported ongoing chatter that Oklahoma City has interest in Cleveland Cavaliers big man Evan Mobley. Cavs president of basketball operations Koby Altman recently labeled Mobley “part of our future,” but the Thunder are believed to be monitoring any possibility of landing the 24-year-old.

Holmgren’s Game 7 Struggles

All-NBA Third Team center Chet Holmgren endured a difficult finale, producing four points on 1-of-2 shooting with four rebounds, two steals, two blocks and two turnovers in 33 minutes. “They’re a unique team in terms of personnel,” Holmgren said afterward. “I don’t think there’s another team that has the same kind of play style.”

Holmgren averaged 10.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 29.9 minutes during the 12 meetings with San Antonio this season, far below the 18.6 points and 9.1 rebounds he posted in the first two playoff rounds. Head coach Mark Daigneault defended his center, citing Holmgren’s impact during a late-second-quarter run that trimmed the deficit, though local columnist Jenni Carlson graded his performance an “F.”

Offseason Decisions Ahead

Oklahoma City faces significant salary-cap choices this summer. Five-year maximum extensions for Holmgren and forward Jalen Williams start in 2026-27, while team options loom for Isaiah Hartenstein, Luguentz Dort and Kenrich Williams.

Guard Alex Caruso dismissed the idea that the Spurs present an unsolvable problem. “We could have won the game Saturday,” he said. “We’re a good team, they’re a good team. Both will probably be around for a while, so we’ve got to get better and try to win next time.”
