The NBA offseason rumor mill is already active, with three Western Conference franchises drawing attention for very different reasons.
Suns Listed as Long-Shot Suitor for LeBron James
Speculation about LeBron James’ next move now includes Phoenix. Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic cited several links that could make the Suns an outside possibility if the 39-year-old forward chooses to leave Los Angeles.
According to Rankin, James knows Devin Booker from their Team USA tenure, head coach Jordan Ott previously worked on the Lakers’ staff, and guard Jordan Goodwin also played in Los Angeles. James’ youngest son, Bryce, is set to attend the University of Arizona in nearby Tucson, giving the family a regional connection.
From a basketball standpoint, Rankin noted that Phoenix could allow James to resume full-time playmaking duties rather than sharing that role “as he did alongside Luka Doncic with the Lakers.” Rankin acknowledged that the scenario remains highly improbable but added that conversation will likely persist until James decides on his future.
Bulls Broaden Coaching Search
Chicago has expanded its list of coaching candidates, ESPN’s Jamal Collier reported. BYU head coach Kevin Young, a former Suns associate head coach for four seasons, has drawn interest and continues to be regarded league-wide as a future NBA head coach.
Trail Blazers interim coach Tiago Splitter remains under consideration, per the report. Newly hired executive vice president of basketball operations Bryson Graham, who arrived from Atlanta earlier this month, is leading the search process.
Clippers Weigh Multiple Offseason Paths
Cap analyst Yossi Gozlan outlined two financial avenues for the Clippers: open up salary-cap space or operate above the cap while chasing roster upgrades. The organization is also monitoring the ongoing Aspiration investigation but is still expected to retain considerable flexibility.
How Los Angeles deploys that flexibility to build around Kawhi Leonard and Darius Garland is poised to be one of the summer’s key storylines.
