Separate developments involving the Cavaliers, Celtics and Suns are shaping early off-season storylines across the NBA.

Cavaliers

Guard Donovan Mitchell told Andscape’s Marc J. Spears that Cleveland’s season-ending sweep by the New York Knicks is still hard to accept. Mitchell said the abrupt finish was painful because the club “had an opportunity” that slipped away, adding that the lopsided Game 4 defeat made the disappointment even sharper.

Celtics

Despite recurring speculation, league sources told Heavy.com’s Steve Bulpett that Boston and Milwaukee have not held direct discussions about a trade involving two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Bulpett noted the situation could evolve and suggested any Antetokounmpo deal might ultimately require multiple teams.

Separately, The Athletic’s Jay King identified Knicks center Mitchell Robinson and former Celtic Robert Williams as potential frontcourt targets Boston could pursue this summer.

Suns

Phoenix intends to explore a long-term contract extension with forward Dillon Brooks once he becomes eligible later in the off-season, according to Gerald Bourguet of Sports360AZ. Team officials value the 28-year-old’s toughness, leadership and defense; one internal voice said those attributes “do not age.” The key decision now centers on how much the Suns are willing to commit financially to keep Brooks in the desert.
