Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving said on Twitch that he is “definitely close” to full health after surgery to repair a torn ACL, noting that the extended layoff has allowed him to rebuild his body and refine his game.

“I’m definitely close to being over at 100 percent in terms of my ACL recovery,” Irving said, according to Grant Afseth of Dallas Hoops Journal. “It’s been a while now. I’m so grateful that I’ve had the time to heal.”

The 32-year-old added that experience is helping him play with greater efficiency. “At this age, I feel like the game is slowing down, but also I’m able to do more out there—just more efficiently,” he said.

Irving’s comments coincide with praise from new Mavericks general manager Mike Schmitz, who highlighted the veteran’s influence on Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 overall pick. “Being around that every day, combined with everything he’s done to get to this point, gives us a ton of optimism alongside his fit with Cooper,” Schmitz said. He added that Irving’s leadership has driven an early “buy-in” throughout the roster as of May 29.

The organization plans to build around Flagg, yet Irving remains a central figure and, by his account, is inching closer to peak condition with each passing day.
