Lakers cut more than a dozen jobs as ownership revamps franchise

The Los Angeles Lakers eliminated over a dozen positions on Wednesday, trimming staff across marketing, communications, content, and corporate partnerships as the club continues an extensive restructuring under new owner Mark Walter.
Multiple outlets reported the job reductions, which follow the team’s sale by the Buss family to Walter at a valuation of roughly $10 billion. The shake-up is part of a franchise-wide overhaul that has touched both business and basketball operations.
On the business side, longtime executive Tim Harris was succeeded by Lon Rosen as president of business operations. Michael Spetner and Ryan Kantor have also stepped into senior leadership roles.
Basketball operations added former University of Virginia head coach Tony Bennett as a draft consultant and adviser, while analytics expert Rohan Ramadas joined as assistant general manager of strategy and data systems.
President of basketball operations Rob Pelinka said the organization will keep investing heavily in player development, including new biomechanics, movement, and recovery labs at the UCLA Health Training Center. “It’s a full rebuild and retool,” Pelinka stated recently. “Elevating it and bringing it to the next level.”
The Lakers were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round of the playoffs, prompting further calls for change within the franchise.
