New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill has again expressed interest in relocating the Brooklyn Nets to her home state, yet league sources say the franchise intends to remain in New York City.
“They’re perfectly happy in Brooklyn,” a source told the New York Post, indicating no plans to leave the borough the team has called home since 2012 after 35 seasons in the Meadowlands.
Sherrill told reporters she frequently raises the topic of a Nets return and hinted that “some people are working on” bringing additional professional sports to Prudential Center in Newark. “I love the idea,” she said, noting she hopes to make progress “maybe in my second 100 days” in office.
Additional Atlantic Division Notes
Brown earns strong All-NBA support: Celtics forward Jaylen Brown landed on the All-NBA Second Team, collecting 44 first-team votes, 54 second-team votes and two third-team votes—more first-team votes than any player who missed the top squad. On social media, Brown said he was “somewhat surprised” by the level of support, adding that he is “grateful for everything.”
Limited rookie minutes for Broome: Second-round pick Johni Broome, selected 35th by Philadelphia last June, appeared in only 11 regular-season games and logged 55 minutes, converting four of 24 shot attempts while also dealing with a knee issue. Observers caution it is premature to rule out his potential.
Edgecombe shines as lottery pick: In contrast, Sixers lottery selection VJ Edgecombe stepped directly into the starting lineup. Pairing with Tyrese Maxey, the rookie averaged 16.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.4 steals, positioning the duo as one of the league’s most promising young backcourts.
