The Los Angeles Lakers are set to hire former New Orleans Pelicans vice president of strategy and operations Rohan Ramadas as assistant general manager, according to ESPN reporters Dave McMenamin and Shams Charania.
Ramadas will work directly under team president and general manager Rob Pelinka. He joined the Pelicans in September 2024 as senior director of analytics and innovation and was elevated to the vice-presidential role last May.
The Athletic’s Dan Woike confirmed the move and noted Ramadas’ science-focused résumé, which includes more than 12 years at The Aerospace Corporation. League contacts described him as “very smart,” Woike reported.
“He’s a literal rocket scientist,” a Pelicans source told ESPN, adding that Ramadas introduced artificial-intelligence tools and custom models to assist New Orleans’ front office.
During his end-of-season press conference, Pelinka said the Lakers planned to add two assistant general managers—one concentrating on pro and draft scouting and player development, and another focusing on strategy, analytics, and the salary cap. Multiple sources told ESPN that the organization met face-to-face with several candidates at the draft combine in Chicago.
