Kenny Atkinson said he has been struck by how the New York Knicks have continued to play with energy and urgency while piling up victories in what he called a “historic” winning streak.
The veteran coach noted that long runs of success often lead to complacency, but he has not seen evidence of that with Tom Thibodeau’s team. “They just refuse to have a letdown,” Atkinson said, adding that New York’s consistent approach from game to game has been the most impressive aspect of the streak.
Atkinson, who has spent 20 years in the NBA as both an assistant and head coach, pointed out that maintaining intensity deep into a season is rarely easy. He credited the Knicks’ veteran leadership and defensive commitment for helping them avoid the emotional dip that can follow extended success.
While Atkinson did not predict how long the run might last, he said the Knicks have shown the type of mindset that can carry a team through the postseason. “You can see how locked in they are,” he said. “That’s why this streak feels sustainable.”
