The Milwaukee Bucks are rounding out the bench under new head coach Taylor Jenkins, deciding to retain longtime assistant coach Darvin Ham while bringing in Joe Boylan, according to The Athletic’s Eric Nehm and Sam Amick.
Ham returns for his seventh year in Milwaukee after serving six of the past eight seasons with the Bucks. He previously worked under Mike Budenholzer and, most recently, Doc Rivers. Between those stints, Ham led the Los Angeles Lakers for two seasons and guided the club to the 2023 Western Conference Finals. Earlier this offseason, he was reportedly in the mix for the New Orleans Pelicans’ head-coaching job before the franchise hired Jamahl Mosley.
Boylan joins the Bucks after one year with the Memphis Grizzlies, where he overlapped with Jenkins. Before his stop in Memphis, Boylan spent the 2021–24 seasons on the Minnesota Timberwolves’ staff. His résumé also includes player-development roles with the Pelicans, Grizzlies, Golden State Warriors, and Boston Celtics.
Milwaukee recently added Patrick St. Andrews, another former Jenkins colleague from Atlanta and Memphis, as an assistant. The moves further shape a staff built around coaches who have worked closely with Jenkins during his previous tenures.
