The New Orleans Pelicans are finalizing a deal to bring veteran coach and former NBA guard God Shammgod onto new head coach Jamahl Mosley’s bench, reporter Michael Scotto of HoopsHype said on social media.

Shammgod played professionally from 1997 to 2009 before moving into coaching. He joined the Dallas Mavericks in 2016 as a player-development assistant and remained in that role through 2025. During that span, he worked with Mosley, then a Mavericks assistant, until 2021.

When Mosley took over the Orlando Magic, Shammgod reunited with him for the 2025-26 season. He will now depart Orlando to serve as an assistant in New Orleans.

According to league sources cited by Scotto, Mosley intends to retain several members of the existing Pelicans staff—Greg Monroe, Jodie Meeks, Mike Hopkins, and Will Bynum. The head coach also plans additional hires beyond Shammgod.

Two coaches from Mosley’s Orlando staff, Dale Osbourne and Bret Brielmaier, are considered strong candidates to join the Pelicans, Scotto reported. Osbourne oversaw the Magic’s defense, while Brielmaier brings experience as a G League head coach with the Long Island Nets in 2020-21.
