LeBron James explained the Los Angeles Lakers’ second-round playoff defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder by pointing directly to a talent gap, not effort or strategy.

Speaking on the latest episode of his Mind the Game podcast with Steve Nash, the 39-year-old forward said Oklahoma City “possessed so much more talent,” a factor he believes decided the series.

“We were not outworked, they didn’t out-physical us, they didn’t outsmart us,” James said. “At the end of the day, we failed in talent.”

The Lakers entered the postseason with momentum after eliminating the Houston Rockets in the opening round. That optimism faded against the defending champion Thunder, a matchup Los Angeles faced without Luka Doncic, who missed the entire playoffs with a Grade 2 hamstring strain.

James noted that being “undermanned” underscored the roster disparity. He offered no complaints about officiating and avoided assigning blame to teammates, calling the Thunder roster simply “deeper” and “more complete.”

The four-time NBA champion also addressed his own future, saying he has not decided whether to return for what would be his 24th season. “I’m still in the moment of just taking my time,” he said, adding that family vacation plans currently take priority and that he expects to evaluate his options later this summer.
