Myers’ Expanding Role Raises Questions About 76ers Front Office

Bob Myers’ responsibilities within Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment appear to be shifting toward a greater influence over the Philadelphia 76ers, despite initial expectations that his focus would stay on broader business matters and the company’s other properties, including the NHL’s New Jersey Devils and Premier League club Crystal Palace F.C.

Comments delivered by Myers and managing partner Josh Harris during last week’s press conference following the dismissal of president of basketball operations Daryl Morey suggested that the former Golden State executive is gaining authority in team decision-making. Columnist Marcus Hayes of The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that league observers now believe Morey’s eventual replacement could hold a largely ceremonial title while Myers assumes deeper day-to-day control.

Conflicting accounts paint an uncertain picture. “Josh desperately wants Bob to run the team; Bob desperately does not want to run the team,” one source told the Inquirer. A separate team source rejected the notion that Harris is pushing Myers to take over full control.

Myers continues to work outside Philadelphia and maintains oversight of Harris Blitzer’s non-NBA franchises, making proximity an additional hurdle. Hayes argued that the 76ers must secure an experienced, autonomous executive rather than someone who would need constant guidance from Myers.

George Targets Full Offseason After Limited Year

Paul George logged only 37 games in 2025-26 because of injuries and a 25-game suspension, yet he enters the summer healthy and eager for uninterrupted training. “It’s been stagnant the last couple years because of a surgery here or a surgery there,” George told The Inquirer. “So this summer should be a better summer, in terms of working on my game.”

Contract Outlook and Trade Scenarios

Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron examined Philadelphia’s offseason options, weighing the feasibility of trading Joel Embiid or George and projecting the price tags for key free agents. Gozlan estimates Kelly Oubre Jr. could command $9-10 million annually and suggests Andre Drummond might be retained on a minimum deal.

Meanwhile, Adam Aaronson of PhillyVoice explored — and ultimately dismissed as unrealistic — the idea of moving Tyrese Maxey in order to pivot around prospect VJ Edgecombe, anticipating a younger core once the contracts of George and Embiid expire.
