The Chicago Bulls plan to request permission to interview Hornets assistant coach Lamar Skeeter and Hawks assistant coach Ryan Schmidt as the franchise continues its search for a new head coach, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
New head of basketball operations Bryson Graham recently completed key front-office hires, announcing Stephen Mervis as senior vice president of basketball operations and Acie Law IV as vice president of player personnel. With those positions filled, the organization is turning its full attention to the coaching vacancy.
Skeeter, 37, entered the professional ranks in 2012-13 with the Canton Charge in the NBA G League. After a season as a player-development coach with Atlanta, he joined the Utah Jazz in 2014 and rose from player-development roles to lead assistant over a ten-year span. He became Charlotte’s lead assistant under Charles Lee two years ago.
Schmidt spent four seasons (2017-21) as an assistant with Raptors 905 before moving into head-coaching roles with the London Lions in the British Basketball League and the College Park Skyhawks, Atlanta’s G League affiliate. He joined the Hawks’ NBA bench as a full-time assistant under Quin Snyder in 2024.
Chicago’s interview list already includes Sean Sweeney, James Borrego, Wes Unseld Jr., Micah Nori, and Dave Bliss, with former NBA center Tiago Splitter also under consideration.
The Bulls have not announced a timetable for making a final decision.
