Uncertainty continues to surround Portland’s head-coaching vacancy, with league sources telling The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer the Trail Blazers have not ruled out elevating interim coach Tiago Splitter to the full-time post.

Fischer previously reported pessimism about Splitter’s chances, but on Monday indicated the former NBA center remains in contention. Splitter, 41, joined Portland as an assistant last June and assumed the interim role after Chauncey Billups was arrested on federal charges and placed on unpaid leave following the season opener. He guided the Blazers to a 42-39 mark and the franchise’s first playoff appearance in five seasons.

Despite respect for Splitter’s handling of the abrupt transition, NBC Sports’ Kurt Helin reports new majority owner Tom Dundon is not believed to be a strong supporter. Other known candidates include Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori, Nuggets assistant Jared Dudley, Nets assistant Steve Hetzel and Lakers assistant Greg St. Jean.

Chicago Targets Multiple Interviewees

Chicago Sports Network’s K.C. Johnson lists Spurs assistant Sean Sweeney, former Pelicans interim coach James Borrego, Nori and Bulls assistant Wes Unseld Jr. among those in the mix to replace Billy Donovan. Fischer adds that Thunder assistant Dave Bliss will also interview, and Chicago intends to seek permission to speak with Splitter. Portland’s response remains uncertain because Splitter is under contract through next season.

Detroit, Milwaukee and Atlanta Commit Big Money

Both Fischer and The Athletic’s Hunter Patterson report the Pistons remain “fully committed” to J.B. Bickerstaff, recently extended at a salary of at least $10 million annually after Detroit reached the second round. Fischer notes Bucks head coach Taylor Jenkins received a similar eight-figure yearly salary on a six-year deal when he was hired.

In Atlanta, an extension for Hawks coach Quin Snyder is viewed as imminent, according to Fischer. General manager Onsi Saleh praised Snyder following the club’s playoff exit, and the forthcoming agreement is likewise expected to reach eight figures per season.
