Cavaliers, LeBron James Reportedly Exploring Off-Season Reunion

NBA insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson said LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers share interest in reuniting when the four-time MVP reaches unrestricted free agency this summer.

Speaking on the BIGPLAY Cleveland Show on May 17, 2026, Robinson noted that James “has not made a decision one way or the other,” but confirmed “mutual interest” exists between the player and his original franchise. Robinson described recent discussions as exploratory, with both sides “listening” and “feeling things out,” and emphasized that no agreement is imminent.

Cleveland’s postseason performance—currently stalled in the second round—could influence the pursuit, Robinson added. Financial flexibility is another hurdle; veteran NBA reporter Marc Stein has likewise cited cap considerations while listing the Cavaliers, New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors among teams expected to court James.

The Los Angeles Lakers remain a “logical” destination because of existing contract options and roster structure, Robinson said. He also labeled the Knicks a legitimate dark horse due to James’s longstanding New York connections and the club’s roster maneuverability.

An additional variable could be Giannis Antetokounmpo. Robinson suggested that if the Milwaukee Bucks star changes teams, James might either follow or join him in the same market, complicating the summer landscape.

Robinson does not anticipate a quick resolution when free agency opens on June 30, predicting that negotiations could stretch into the July 4 holiday period.
