Golden State head coach Steve Kerr will begin his new two-year agreement without his two lead assistants. League sources told ESPN’s Anthony Slater that Terry Stotts and Jerry Stackhouse will not return to the Warriors for the 2026-27 season.
Stotts, who served as Kerr’s top aide and offensive coordinator, and Stackhouse, the No. 2 assistant in charge of defense, both worked on expiring deals. According to Slater, neither coach was dismissed.
A longtime NBA head coach in Portland before joining Golden State in 2024, Stotts informed Kerr late in the regular season that he would move on and remain available for head-coaching openings around the league. “I enjoyed my time with Steve, the staff and players. My two years there were fulfilling. Nothing but well wishes,” Stotts told ESPN.
Stackhouse, 51, also plans to pursue head-coaching jobs, per league sources. The former NBA shooting guard previously spent five seasons guiding Vanderbilt before accepting a spot on Kerr’s bench two years ago.
Slater reports that former Pelicans head coach Willie Green, who started his coaching career as a Warriors assistant, is under consideration to fill one of the vacant spots. Veteran assistant Kris Weems—promoted to a front-of-the-bench role after Chris Demarco left to coach the WNBA’s New York Liberty—remains expected to stay on staff.
