The Washington Wizards head into the offseason holding the first overall selection in the upcoming NBA Draft and a roster that now features Trae Young and Anthony Davis, acquisitions that supply the franchise with a primary playmaker and an established interior force.

Team executives are widely believed to favor BYU wing AJ Dybantsa for the top pick, according to previous reports from Hoops Wire. Should the 6-foot-8 prospect be chosen, he would join a retooled core built around Young and Davis in an effort to speed up Washington’s long-running rebuild.

“The Wizards train is starting to leave the station,” general manager Will Dawkins said during his end-of-season news conference, via ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk. “It’s not full speed ahead, but we do plan to move with a little momentum.”

Momentum has been scarce in the nation’s capital; Washington has dropped at least 64 games in each of the past three seasons. The front office hopes improved health and roster fit will help end that slide and steer the organization toward sustained relevance.
