Brooklyn’s front office left the NBA Draft Combine with a sharper picture of the backcourt talent likely to be available when the Nets step to the podium with the No. 6 selection on June 26.
Team evaluators spent the week in Chicago observing measurements, drills and live scrimmages that featured several guards projected for the top half of the first round. The close-up sessions allowed Brooklyn executives to compare skill sets, athletic testing and interview impressions as they narrow their draft board.
Holding their highest pick since 2016, the Nets are expected to focus on adding playmaking and perimeter defense. The combine provided the final league-sanctioned opportunity to see prospects compete against one another before the franchise begins individual workouts at its HSS Training Center in Brooklyn.
General manager Sean Marks and his scouting staff will use the combine data to schedule in-market visits and finalize rankings ahead of draft night at Barclays Center. For now, the franchise’s decision makers believe the guard group offers multiple viable options to address roster needs at No. 6.
