Minor hamstring strain keeps Knicks’ OG Anunoby day-to-day ahead of Game 3

New York forward OG Anunoby is being treated as day-to-day after imaging showed only a “very minor” left hamstring strain, league sources told the New York Post. The 26-year-old was listed as questionable for Friday’s Game 3 in Philadelphia, two days after suffering the injury during the Knicks’ Game 2 win that pushed their first-round series lead to 2-0.
SNY’s Ian Begley echoed that assessment, saying on “The Putback” that Anunoby could return as soon as Game 3 or Game 4 on Sunday, barring a setback. Previous hamstring strains sidelined him for nine and four games, but team insiders expect a shorter absence this time.
Potential rotation changes
Anunoby’s condition could open minutes for Landry Shamet and prompt head coach Tom Thibodeau to use more double-big alignments, according to the Post. Reporter Stefan Bondy added that guard Miles McBride is viewed as a capable short-term replacement in the starting five if Anunoby sits.
Versatile swingman Josh Hart—who saw his numbers rise when Anunoby missed time earlier in the season—is considered the top candidate to absorb a larger workload. Hart is also on the injury report with a sprained left thumb but remains questionable and is not believed to be in serious danger of missing Game 3.
Robinson likely to return
Center Mitchell Robinson, who sat out Game 2 because of an illness, is listed as probable and is expected to be available Friday night at Wells Fargo Center.
