The Minnesota Timberwolves are working to secure a new contract for president of basketball operations Tim Connelly, according to league sources cited by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Connelly’s current deal runs through 2027.
Connelly, a longtime Denver Nuggets executive before joining Minnesota in 2022, has overseen a stretch in which the Timberwolves reached the Western Conference finals in each of the past two seasons. The club advanced to the second round of this year’s playoffs last week after eliminating Denver for the second time in three years.
Finch praises Graham, pushes for Lloyd
Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch congratulated former New Orleans colleague Bryson Graham on being hired to run basketball operations for the Chicago Bulls, but admitted he hoped Minnesota general manager Matt Lloyd would land the position instead. Finch called Lloyd “one of the best executives I’ve ever worked with” and added that it is “only a matter of time” before Lloyd receives his own top-executive opportunity.
Jazz add Gonzalez to front office
The Utah Jazz plan to hire Ben Gonzalez, currently the director of basketball operations at the University of Georgia, for a front-office role, Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68 reported.
Regardless of where Utah’s pick falls in next week’s draft lottery, fans can expect the club to shift away from prioritizing draft positioning next season, wrote Sarah Todd of The Deseret News.
