MIAMI — The Heat have abandoned their earlier ambition to carve out significant salary-cap space for the summer of 2026, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. With several high-profile players who had been projected to hit the market now locked into extensions, Miami is pivoting toward maintaining luxury-tax flexibility rather than chasing outright cap room.

Jackson reports that creating meaningful space in 2026-27 would likely require moving both Andrew Wiggins and Norman Powell. Given that scenario, operating above the cap next offseason is viewed internally as the more practical route.

Rozier waiver under consideration

The franchise is still weighing whether to waive veteran guard Terry Rozier, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel writes. While Rozier is seen as a potential bounce-back candidate and may be the better player “in a vacuum,” Miami’s backcourt is crowded, and the team has a more pressing need in the frontcourt. Those factors have kept discussions alive about potentially cutting ties with the 31-year-old guard.

Contact with Achiuwa; Settle expected on Exhibit 10

Miami has been in touch with free-agent forward Precious Achiuwa, whom the front office views as a possible fit to bolster the front line. Separately, undrafted rookie Steve Settle is still expected to sign an Exhibit 10 contract before the regular season, even though the Heat already sit at the 21-player training-camp limit.

Players back at Kaseya Center ahead of camp

Although training camp does not officially open until the week of Sept. 29, several players have returned to Kaseya Center for voluntary workouts and drills, Winderman notes.

Skyforce acquire Jahmir Young’s G League rights

The Sioux Falls Skyforce, Miami’s G League affiliate, obtained the returning-player rights to guard Jahmir Young in a three-team trade that sent Bryson Warren’s rights to the Westchester Knicks and Moses Brown’s rights to the Grand Rapids Gold. Young signed an Exhibit 10 deal with Miami on Thursday; if he is waived and opts for the G League, Sioux Falls will control his rights.
