The Denver Nuggets plan to begin negotiations with center Nikola Jokic on a contract extension during the upcoming offseason, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.
Jokic reiterated after Denver’s playoff elimination that he intends to stay with the franchise long term. “I still want to be a Nugget forever,” the 31-year-old said. Charania added that the organization believes the two-time MVP is fully committed to remaining in Denver.
The Serbian star has two seasons left on his current agreement, including a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28. A new deal could add approximately $285 million over four years, based on projected salary-cap figures.
Jokic is coming off another MVP-caliber campaign, averaging 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.7 assists while leading the NBA in both rebounds and assists.
While Jokic’s future appears secure, Denver faces financial pressure with an expensive roster. Charania noted that personnel changes are likely this summer, with decisions looming on players such as Peyton Watson and trade speculation involving others, including Cameron Johnson.
