The New York Knicks plan to add free-agent guard Garrison Mathews on a training-camp contract, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post. Mathews’ agent, David Bauman, confirmed the agreement.
The 6’5” sharpshooter will enter camp competing with Landry Shamet for a spot on the Knicks’ regular-season roster.
Mathews, who turns 29 next month, has built his reputation behind the arc. Nearly 85% of his career field-goal attempts have come from three-point range, and he has converted 38.2% of those shots. He is also known for his ability to draw fouls on long-range attempts.
Last season with the Atlanta Hawks, the former Lipscomb standout appeared in 47 games, averaging 7.5 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 39.0% from deep in 17.7 minutes per game.
Mathews entered the NBA undrafted in 2019 and spent his first two seasons with the Washington Wizards. He later played a season and a half for the Houston Rockets before being traded to Atlanta ahead of the 2023 trade deadline.
