Howard University has tapped former NBA All-Star John Wall to run its men’s basketball program, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The school has not yet issued a formal announcement, but Wall is already functioning as president of basketball operations. Charania reports the 35-year-old has joined meetings, assessed recruits, and reviewed options in the transfer portal. He is collaborating with general manager Daniel Marks and head coach Kenny Blakeney to craft the program’s long-term strategy.
Wall spent the 2025/26 season as an analyst for Amazon Prime Video after officially retiring last August. The hiring fulfills a goal he revealed in January, when he served as Howard’s honorary captain and said he hoped to work in a college or NBA front office.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft played 13 seasons, primarily with the Washington Wizards. He earned five straight All-Star selections, landed on the All-NBA Third Team in 2017, and made the All-Defensive Second Team in 2015. His career also included two full seasons away from the court—one recovering from a torn Achilles and another after reaching a “not to report” agreement with the Houston Rockets.
