The Atlanta Hawks have officially signed forward Kobe Johnson to an Exhibit 10 contract, the team announced on September 11.
The agreement comes two-and-a-half months after ESPN’s Jonathon Givony first reported on June 27 that the sides had reached a deal. Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution later confirmed the contract type via Twitter.
Johnson spent three seasons at USC before transferring to UCLA for his senior year. With the Bruins, the 6-foot-6 wing averaged 7.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.6 steals, connected on 36.2% of his three-point attempts and earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Defensive Team—his third straight all-defensive nod dating back to his Pac-12 days. He is a career 76.7% free-throw shooter.
Exhibit 10 deals are non-guaranteed but can be converted into two-way contracts. Atlanta has already filled two-way slots with Eli John Ndiaye and Kentucky guard Lamont Butler, so Johnson is expected to open the season with the College Park Skyhawks, the club’s G League affiliate.
