ESPN commentator Brian Windhorst called the Houston Rockets’ acquisition of Kevin Durant “the biggest prize” of the NBA off-season during Wednesday’s edition of NBA Today.

“I don’t think there’s much of a debate. Gotta be Kevin Durant in Houston,” Windhorst said, describing the move as a no-contest in terms of overall impact.

Houston landed the 14-time All-Star in a seven-team blockbuster after bowing out in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. As part of the deal, the Rockets sent Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks to the Phoenix Suns.

Durant now joins a core featuring Alperen Şengün and Fred VanVleet, with the franchise aiming to close the gap on the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder. “Houston is going all in,” Windhorst added.

The 35-year-old forward is entering the final season of his contract and can become a free agent next summer, a detail Windhorst said is worth monitoring. Even so, he expects Durant to thrive immediately. “He’s going to get buckets for the Rockets, who can defend,” Windhorst noted. “When you get into a close game and you’ve got a defense like they do, and a finisher like Kevin Durant, that’s a recipe for winning a lot of games.”
