Broadcast Changes for Guardians Highlight Uncertainty Around Cavaliers’ Local TV Future

Spread the love

Major League Baseball has taken control of producing Cleveland Guardians local telecasts, introducing a rotating lineup of on-air talent and reducing the familiar night-to-night consistency longtime viewers once expected.

Over the weekend, viewers noticed regular announcers Matt Underwood and Rick Manning were absent from the booth. Their status has not changed, but MLB’s new production approach is placing different voices in various combinations throughout the season.

The shift mirrors what Cleveland Cavaliers fans experienced this year. With FanDuel Sports Network no longer carrying games and postseason contests moving between Amazon Prime and Peacock, the team’s broadcast placement has become fluid. To date, the Cavaliers have not confirmed a permanent local outlet. Reports have mentioned the possible creation of a Rock Entertainment Sports Network, yet no agreement or broadcast crew lineup has been announced.

The crossover in personnel is already under way. Cayleigh Griffin, familiar to Cavs viewers from previous NBA coverage, has joined the Guardians’ rotation and will serve as in-game reporter on an upcoming road trip.

As leagues and teams restructure media arrangements, Cleveland fans remain without clarity on where—and with which announcers—they will watch Cavaliers games next season.
