Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens has captured the 2025-26 NBA Executive of the Year award, the league announced on Tuesday, April 28.

The honor, determined by a vote of executives from all 30 franchises, marks Stevens’ second trophy in three seasons. He collected 11 first-place votes and finished with 69 total points. Utah Jazz executive Onsi Saleh placed second with 41 points, followed by Trajan Langdon (New Orleans Pelicans), Jeff Peterson (Brooklyn Nets) and Sam Presti (Oklahoma City Thunder).

Roster overhaul without sacrificing wins

Boston entered the season amid expectations of a reset. A swollen payroll, looming second-apron tax penalties and Jayson Tatum’s offseason Achilles injury prompted Stevens to retool. He traded Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, declined to re-sign veterans Al Horford and Luke Kornet, and emphasized financial flexibility.

Despite the changes, the Celtics posted 56 victories, remaining in contention both before and after Tatum’s March return. Jaylen Brown spearheaded the offense, Derrick White filled multiple roles, and Payton Pritchard energized the bench while Neemias Queta, Sam Hauser and rookie Jordan Walsh earned steady minutes.

Stevens further reduced salary at the trade deadline, maneuvering Boston below the luxury-tax threshold—an achievement that resonated with opposing front offices casting ballots.

The former head coach is the 12th executive to win the award more than once.
