NEW YORK — Guard Landry Shamet has fallen out of the New York Knicks’ regular rotation, prompting head coach Tom Thibodeau to increase minutes for fellow back-court player Jose Alvarado.
The shift, which became evident ahead of Monday night’s game, marks a notable change in the team’s guard hierarchy. Shamet, acquired last offseason to bolster perimeter shooting, was held out of the primary rotation, allowing Alvarado to step in as the first option off the bench.
Alvarado’s uptick gives the Knicks additional on-ball pressure and playmaking, attributes the staff values with the postseason approaching. While the club did not detail the long-term plan for Shamet, team officials indicated personnel decisions will continue to be evaluated game by game.
