Two reporters covering the New York Knicks exchanged sharp words on X after Thursday’s one-point playoff loss in Atlanta, arguing over a description of forward Mikal Bridges’ postgame demeanor.
What happened
Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News wrote that Bridges appeared to be “holding back tears” inside the visitors’ locker room following the 108-107 defeat, which left New York trailing the sixth-seeded Hawks 2-1 in their first-round series.
Stefan Bondy of the New York Post publicly challenged that detail, posting that Winfield’s account was “incorrect” and saying he had both eyewitnesses and video to prove it. “Or maybe you just made it up,” Bondy added in his post.
Back-and-forth
Winfield responded that he never used the word “cry” and stood by what he saw. He also contended that Bondy’s post unfairly placed the Knicks’ playoff troubles on Bridges. The exchange grew heated, with Winfield sending multiple replies—at least one of which was later deleted.
Quick truce
According to both writers, the dispute cooled after a private conversation. Winfield acknowledged his initial online reaction was “unfair” and offered an apology while maintaining confidence in his reporting. Bondy replied with a single fist-bump emoji, signaling the matter was settled.
What’s next
Game 4 of the best-of-seven series is scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m. EST in Atlanta.
