RIGA, Latvia — September 10, 2025: Tournament favorite Germany erased a fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Slovenia, 99-91, and advance to the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 semifinals.
Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic poured in 39 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and handed out seven assists, but foul trouble hampered him after he collected his third personal late in the second quarter and his fourth early in the third. International rules disqualify a player after five fouls, forcing Doncic to tread carefully down the stretch.
Slovenia still carried a 74-70 edge into the final period despite a half-court buzzer-beater from Germany’s Tristan da Silva at the end of the third. The Slovenian offense stalled in the last 10 minutes, producing only 17 points while Germany surged ahead behind a balanced attack.
Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner led the German side with 23 points and seven rebounds. Former Lakers guard and current Sacramento Kings playmaker Dennis Schroder added 20 points and seven assists, and veteran center Daniel Theis contributed 15 points and nine boards.
Klemen Prepelic (13 points) and Gregor Hrovat (11 points, four rebounds, three assists) offered support for Slovenia, but the squad could not replicate earlier tournament upsets. Slovenia entered EuroBasket with only one exhibition victory, lost its first two group games to Poland and France, then recovered with three straight wins before knocking out Italy in the round of 16. Doncic exits the competition leading all players in both scoring and steals.
Germany moves on to face Finland, led by Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen, in the semifinals. The winner will meet either Greece or Turkey in Sunday’s championship game.
With Slovenia’s run over, Doncic’s next appearance will come when the Lakers open preseason action in a few weeks.
