HOUSTON — Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant will sit out Friday night’s Game 3 of the first-round playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers because of a sprained left ankle, according to sources familiar with the situation.
The 37-year-old was already dealing with injuries this postseason. He missed Game 1 after sustaining a right knee contusion during practice, then returned for Game 2 and led the Rockets with 23 points on 7-for-12 shooting in 41 minutes. Despite his effort, Houston fell 101-94, giving the Lakers a 2-0 lead.
Durant’s performance dipped after halftime in Game 2. He managed only three points on 1-for-5 shooting over the final two quarters and committed five of his postseason-high nine turnovers during that span.
Initially listed as questionable for Game 3, Durant received continuous treatment on the ankle but was ultimately ruled out, sources said.
