Brooklyn, N.Y. — Head coach Jordi Fernández said he is honored to have received a contract extension from the Brooklyn Nets and is already concentrating on accelerating the team’s ongoing rebuild.
The agreement, announced Tuesday, secures Fernández’s place on the Nets’ bench beyond the upcoming season. Specific financial terms and length were not disclosed.
“I’m grateful for the organization’s faith in our vision,” Fernández told reporters at Barclays Center. He added that his staff will spend the offseason sharpening player development plans, evaluating roster needs, and setting training-camp priorities.
Brooklyn has missed the playoffs for two straight years after trading several veterans for draft capital, leaving a young roster headlined by first-round picks from the past three drafts. General manager Sean Marks said extending Fernández provides “stability and clarity” as the franchise enters what it calls Phase 2 of its long-term plan.
The Nets own three first-round selections in the next two drafts and have significant salary-cap flexibility beginning in 2027. Fernández said the front office and coaching staff are “completely aligned” on balancing short-term competitiveness with long-range growth.
The coach will lead the Nets’ contingent at next month’s draft combine in Chicago before returning to Brooklyn to oversee pre-draft workouts.
