76ers take 84-77 lead into fourth quarter of Game 2 against Celtics

The Philadelphia 76ers carried an 84-77 advantage over the Boston Celtics into the final period of Game 2 of their Eastern Conference first-round series on Tuesday night, April 21, at TD Garden in Boston.

Rookie guard VJ Edgecombe paced Philadelphia with 27 points on 11-for-18 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds through three quarters. Kelly Oubre Jr. added nine points, while Tyrese Maxey recorded eight assists but was held scoreless.

Jaylen Brown led Boston with 28 points, hitting 9 of 12 free throws and 8 of 18 shots from the field. Nikola Vučević chipped in nine points and five rebounds. Jayson Tatum pulled down 10 boards but scored seven points on 3-for-12 shooting.

Philadelphia shot 48 percent from the floor and 43 percent from three-point range, while Boston managed 40 percent overall and 26 percent from beyond the arc. The Celtics held a 37-31 edge on the glass but committed 10 turnovers to the 76ers’ eight.

The Sixers played without All-Star center Joel Embiid, sidelined by an abdominal injury with an estimated return of April 24. Boston entered the night holding a 1-0 series lead after winning Game 1, 91-84.

Game 2 will determine whether Philadelphia heads home with the series tied or Boston secures a commanding 2-0 cushion. The fourth quarter was set to begin at approximately 10:05 p.m. ET.
