During a stop in China on Nike’s “Forever King Tour,” Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James made it clear he has no plans to move into coaching once his playing days are over.
Asked about the possibility at an event covered by CGTN Sports Scene, the 40-year-old replied, “No. No, no, no, no, no coaching for me. No, no, no. I was inspired by the game. I love the game. But I don’t have coaching in my future.”
James, the NBA’s oldest active player, continues to perform at an elite level. He was named to the All-NBA Second Team last season and is expected to play a central role for the Lakers in the 2025-26 campaign. Training camp opens in a few weeks.
The four-time MVP’s extensive on-court experience and well-known basketball IQ have often fueled speculation that he could thrive on the sidelines. Stories of him identifying opponents’ plays before they unfold are common around the league. Despite that, James reiterated that coaching does not appeal to him.
For now, his focus remains on helping Los Angeles make another championship run in a highly competitive Western Conference.
