Warriors Still Waiting on Steve Kerr’s Decision as Play-In Looms

San Francisco, CA — The Golden State Warriors enter Wednesday’s win-or-go-home play-in matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers without certainty about head coach Steve Kerr’s future, according to The Athletic. Kerr, who signed a two-year, $35 million extension in 2024, has delayed contract discussions until the offseason, and a team source told the outlet “nothing has changed.”

The 10th-seeded Warriors must win twice to secure a playoff berth, yet Kerr has made it clear he prefers to remain on the bench alongside longtime star Stephen Curry. Forward Draymond Green backed that stance, telling NBC Sports Bay Area the organization “won’t find a better coach” than Kerr and warning against a revolving door of coaching hires.

Minute Limits for Key Veterans

Managing workloads will be critical in the elimination game. ESPN reported that Curry, Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford will each stay under 40 minutes after missing significant time in the second half of the season because of injuries or illness. Reporter Anthony Slater noted on social media that Curry logged 26, 25, 27 and 29 minutes in his four appearances since returning from a knee injury and projected 34 minutes as his likely ceiling Wednesday.

Curry Confident Despite Turbulent Season

Curry told the Associated Press he is eager to extend the campaign. “I love playing basketball, it’s what I get paid to do,” the two-time MVP said. “Our season’s been different than we expected, but the fact that there is something to still play for gives all of us a lot of confidence down the stretch.”

Green Remains Defensive Anchor

Although Green is no longer at his peak defensively, The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson II wrote that the veteran remains the unit’s linchpin after appearing in 68 games. Green emphasized discipline for the play-in: “These will be very detailed game plans. You’ve got to stay locked in on your defensive responsibility. There’s just no space for lapses in playoff games.”

Golden State and the Clippers tip off Wednesday night at Chase Center, with the loser’s season coming to an immediate end.
