PHILADELPHIA — Forward Paul George is producing solid numbers after serving a 25-game suspension for violating the NBA’s drug policy, yet league insiders doubt the surge will boost his trade value. George, who turns 36 soon, is owed $54.1 million next season and holds a $56.5 million player option for 2027-28. His lengthy injury history also looms as a concern. Over his last seven appearances he has averaged 24.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists.
Knicks stick with current starters
New York head coach Mike Brown said he expects to keep his existing starting five when the postseason opens. “Right now we’re going to start that five and that’s how I foresee it,” Brown told reporters, adding he would consider changes only if absolutely necessary. There had been internal discussion about elevating Landry Shamet, and earlier this season Brown shifted to a smaller lineup by replacing center Mitchell Robinson with guard Josh Hart.
Poeltl’s contract complicates Raptors’ plans
Toronto center Jakob Poeltl, who signed a three-year extension last offseason, is now viewed as an awkward fit both on the floor and on the club’s salary sheet. Limited to 42 games by a back issue, Poeltl remains a non-threat outside the paint and, according to team observers, is not anchoring the defense strongly enough to offset his offensive limitations. His deal is fully guaranteed through 2028-29, making roster moves involving the 28-year-old challenging.
Queta earning support for Most Improved
Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown is lobbying for center Neemias Queta to receive Most Improved Player consideration. “He’s been great … probably one of the most improved players this year,” Brown said. Queta has started 72 of Boston’s 73 games, posting career highs of 10.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks.
Stevens not eyeing college return
Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens, who led Butler University to two NCAA title games, dismissed speculation about a return to the college ranks. “I’m not motivated to do anything but what I’m doing,” he said.
