The Memphis Grizzlies plan to add guard Dariq Whitehead and forward Toby Okani on 10-day contracts, their representatives told ESPN’s Shams Charania and HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, respectively.

Both signings are expected to come via hardship exceptions as Memphis continues to deal with an extensive injury list. Whitehead and Okani will take the roster spots previously held by DeJon Jarreau and Tyler Burton, whose second 10-day agreements expired Wednesday. NBA rules prohibit players from signing a third 10-day deal with the same team in a single season.

Whitehead’s Road Back

Whitehead, 21, entered the league as a first-round pick after one season at Duke but has battled multiple injuries, appearing in only 22 games for the Brooklyn Nets over two years. Brooklyn waived him in October despite holding a guaranteed salary for 2025-26. He joined the Oklahoma City Blue on an Exhibit 10 deal and has averaged 11.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 23.6 minutes across 28 G League outings while shooting 36.8% from the field and 29.8% from three-point range.

Okani’s Versatile Profile

Okani, 24, went undrafted in 2025 after five collegiate seasons, finishing at West Virginia. The 6-foot-8 forward has appeared in 47 games for the Westchester Knicks this year, posting 6.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 21.4 minutes per contest on 39.9% shooting. He is regarded as a versatile defender.

Contract Figures

Whitehead will earn $131,970 over the 10-day span, while Okani will receive $73,153. If the paperwork is completed Friday, both agreements will technically cover the remainder of the season, making the players free agents at 12:00 a.m. ET on April 13.
